Jennifer Aikman-Smith
I came East to New Brunswick after high school and earned my BFA from Mount Allison University in 1987. I also met my husband there and we ended up making our home in Moncton, New Brunswick. Artists have to be nothing if not creative when it comes to finding ways to earn a living while you create images. I have worked in radio as a copywriter and voice talent, taught art at an after school program, worked for a local ad agency as an Art Director and learned how to do graphic design on Mac computers. I have illustrated three children’s books here in Canada and spent 16 years designing and selling cross stitch designs around the world while our two daughters were shorter and younger. Between school visits and illustration projects, I also work as a local substitute teacher which keeps me in touch with what kids are into and lets me stir up their imaginations when we get our other work done! |
